A message from the new CEO of Partners Healthcare System...

As we begin the New Year at Partners HealthCare, we can look to the future with a sense of hope and promise. The hope is founded in our mission; the promise is forged in our pledge to our patients and their families. We embrace this everlasting commitment thanks to you, each and every member of our Partners community through your dedication to help in your own role to care for all who turn to us in their time of need. This is why I consider my position as President and CEO to be a privilege; I am truly inspired by your abiding spirit and look forward to the path we will travel together.

To navigate our passage, we should reflect on our history. Today we stand on the shoulders of the many accomplished men and women who laid the foundation for Partners, some of the most brilliant minds and compassionate hearts, led by three extraordinary pioneers, Dr. James Mongan, Dr. Samuel Thier and Dr. H. Richard Nesson. Together we have the opportunity to build on their achievements by blazing new trails in the advancement of medicine, by embracing a collaborative culture that invests in learning and discovery and then shares these successes with our patients, their families, our students and the world for generations to come.

We will be the architects of our journey, but it will not be without its challenges. We have heard the debate that outlines the need for change in our current health care system. We support this call to evolve, because we believe this opportunity will bring equity in access, quality and service to all Americans. We must deliver on a model that is coordinated, cost efficient, transparent and a benefit to all of our patients across the continuum of care from prevention to long-term. Endowed with the courage and the sensitivity of our values and vision, Partners, in a leadership role, will work to strengthen our relationships with those who share a mutual interest in finding solutions and to ensure we have a seat at tables where health care is a conversation.

Our mission shall always be our compass - to inspire, to nurture, to challenge the best and the brightest to step forward and care for the sickest and neediest in our community and around world. Our providers travel to faraway places, destinations where few others will go to care for lives in need, and here at home we must remain vigilant in our role and obligation to our communities to dissolve the disparities that can smother them.

We also must focus on our own Partners community at our hospitals and care facilities, for all of you are the ambassadors of our message. We will depend on you, as there will be many times when you will be the one to provide the best guidance for the decisions we will need to make. In return we must be there for you, which is why we have a responsibility to promote the development of each of you by creating opportunities for achievement and advancement.

Together we hold the keys to the future, and with the constellation of talent across our Partners community, we can stand together to offer a hope and a promise in the quest to unlock the secrets to the potential of modern medicine.

Ultimately, we will be judged by our civic leadership and the altruistic qualities that guide us. We will be successful when those at greatest need know they can depend on us at all times. I look forward to working with you to stretch ourselves to reach our goals; by doing so, together we can and we will make a difference.

Thank you.
